Running Pocket DOS in the Safe Mode

What Does Running in the Safe Mode Mean?

If you reboot your computer when POocket DOS is running, or you have run your battery down so low that it reboots the next time you recharge and turn it on, your version of Pocket DOS was not properly exited.  When you try and restart Pocket DOS, you will get a message telling you of a prolem and asking you if you want to restart Pocket DOS in Safe Mode.  In Safe Mode, you will not be allowed to run your DOS legacy applications.  If you press a button to restart any application, it will simply flash a message quickly on the screen (almost unreadable) and then return to the Application Menu.  You must restart in Safe Mode first before running any application.

How Do I Return to Normal Pocket DOS Mode?

Once you have told the system that you want to start Pocket DOS in Safe Mode, the system starts up and may, or may not, bring up your application menu.  This depends on your handheld unit.  Either way it doesn't matter, since all that you want to do is to Exit Pocket DOS so that it shuts down properly so that the next time you start up Pocket DOS it doesn't start in Safe Mode.  To exit Pocket DOS, click the small 'X' in the bottom right corner of the screen (Allegro MX) or the reddish circular button towards the right center of the screen.  Either way you get a message asking if you want to shut down Pocket DOS.  Respond Yes.  You will be returned to the CE.Net menu (Allegro CX unit) or the Windows Mobile menu screen (all other new units).  Restart your version of Pocket DOS again, and you will be back to normal mode where you can run your applications again.
