No Operating System

No Operating System Found

If you try and start up Pocket DOS and you get a starting message and during the process you get an almost unreadable message in small characters at the top left of the screen that says No Operating System Found or something to that effect then your version of Pocket DOS has been lost.  This can be caused by several things, one is you tried to uninstall it and left part of it installed, or secondly that there is some sort of a corruption issue.

In the past 3 years we have only found this issue on the Trimble Nomad 800B handheld units so you probably will not run into this message.

We have tried to exit Pocket DOS, reboot the  handheld unit (normally through holding down the on-off button for 6 - 10 seconds) and then restart Pocket DOS.  In some instances this fixed the problem.  Why this works is possibly that the Pocket DOS wasn't shut down properly the last time and that exiting and restarting reinitialized the system.  I can't guarantee this but it has worked so try this first.

If this doesn't work I don't have any other solution for you other than having you send the unit to us to uninstall and reinstall Pocket DOS.  It is possible we could do it over the phone but it requires access to the internet and a cable to attach the handheld unit to the PC.  It is easier on Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems but it is possible with Windows XP if you have Microsoft Active Sync 4.5 installed.  If you don't it would just take too long to do over the phone.

If this happens to you in the 1st 90 days of use we will cover all costs for shipping and reloading.  After 90 days you have to pay for shipping and handling both ways but we will reload the system for you for nothing as long as you are under a support contract.  If you are not under a support contract there is an item on our store entitled Handheld Unit Reload that allows you to pay for the S/H and reloading.  Since the rate varies from year to year there is no cost listed here for this service.

Note:  All customers are under a support contract through the end of the calendar year of their initial purchase or through the end of the next calendar year if you bought your handheld unit in October through December.
