Nautiz X7

Handheld US Nautiz X7

History:

This unit was introduced in November 2009 and is a similar unit to the Trimble Nomad 800B/900G series, but is packed with many more features.  This is a European-made device that is extremely rugged; and for the limited keyboard type of units, this is the top of the line.

TTS Use of this Handheld Unit:

Over the 1st year, this model has been slow to catch on.  Since Trimble is a much larger and better known company, the extra features and the lower cost, did not seem to make a difference to long-term Trimble Recon and Nomad users.

In our first year, we sold only about 10 of these units, but we have high hopes for 2011 now that Bluetooth printing becomes more prevalent since that is a default feature on the Nautiz X7.  I think also with an expanding user base, the unit will also match up well against its competition.

We recommend this unit for lumber grading and end tallying lumber.  It can be used for scaling logs and cruising timber, but we recommend it only in more southern climates, or where cost really is an issue.

Problems and Solutions:

Since this is a relatively new unit, we have had few usage problems; but 2 of the 10 units had to be returned for repair / replacement within the first 60 days.  These were early manufacturing problems; and as the units mature a little, the problems should all be worked out.   One of the problems was in communication with a PC and the other was a charging issue.  None of the other 8 units has experienced any problems in the first year of use.  The 3-year warranty certainly help early model users.
