Allegro DOS
Juniper Systems Allegro DOS Handheld Unit
History:
This unit came out after the Allegro CE/DOS line was discontinued in 2002. It was introduced at the same time as the Allegro CE unit, and both units remained in production through 2005. The unit is no longer made, but it is supported by Juniper Systems and most repairs can still be made.
TTS Use of this Handheld Unit:
This was our largest selling model of the Juniper Systems handheld units. Approximately 300 - 400 of these units were placed into use from 2003 through early 2006 when they became no longer available. None of the problems with the touchscreen that was apparent on the Allegro CE/DOS were shown on this unit since it was not touchscreen and it used a DOS hardened screen.
I would recommend this unit only as a backup unit for users using only an attached printer to print out reports since the use of serial cables has pretty much been discontinued and serial to USB cables may get harder to find.
Most of our new releases of our Legacy DOS applications still run on this older model, so if you can find one at the right price, we will be glad to load it up for you.
Aftermarket Value:
I would place a slightly higher value to these units than the Allegro CE units that were made in the same period. These units, if in good working condition and not showing too much wear, should be worth up to $700. The comparable Allegro CE unit of the same time period, in my estimation, is not worth much more than $500. The screen and the non-necessity to buy Pocket DOS makes this a better buy.
Problems and Issues:
There is no separate Knowledge Base page on the Juniper Systems web site for the Allegro DOS handheld as there is for their other models of handheld units. Questions and answers that you are looking for might be found in our General Questions section.
