Allegro CE/DOS

History:

This CE.Net system was one of the earliest handheld units made by Juniper Systems.  This model superceded the Allegro Field PC, which was a strictly DOS handheld unit.  This model came out around 2000 and continued in production through 2002.  It was the first Microsoft Windows handheld unit that Juniper Systems brought out.

This unit could be run either in DOS mode or Windows mode, which made it an attractive unit for us since we were still supporting DOS applications, which were being run on the recently discontinued Husky handheld line of computers.

It is now out of production.  However, Juniper Systems continues to support this model and can make most repairs that are necessary.

Timber & Transportation Sale of this Unit:

Over the lifespan of the Allegro CE/DOS, we probably sold 100 - 200 of these units.  It was our primary replacement for the Husky FS/3.  All of our users ran this unit in its DOS mode.

Handheld Value:

On the aftermarket, do not pay more than $300 for this type of unit.  It is on average 9 - 10 years old.  Useful life would probably be only 1 - 2 years before even a good condition unit would need being repaired.
