Pocket DOS Issues

What is Pocket DOS?

Pocket DOS is an operating system much like CE.Net and Windows Mobile.  These 3 are all systems that run on a handheld computer.  Pocket DOS, however, runs underneath one of these two operating systems and allows older legacy DOS applications to run on Windows-based, handheld units.

To run a DOS application on any of these new computers, you must have Pocket DOS.  It can be purchased on-line and downloaded to the PC and then set up to run any of our 7 handheld applications.

Why Support Older Legacy DOS Applications?

A lot of people have asked us why we continue to support these old, operating-system applications.  The simple answer is this:

  • Most users do not like using the touch screen.  It requires a stylus, and their hands are already full enough with other equipment.  They also have paint on their gloves from painting logs or trees.  The icons are also too small to touch accurately.
  • The applications are not nearly as full featured as what could be done under the old operating system.  If you simply want to fill in a form, then Windows-based applications are just fine.  If you want to do anything complicated, then it is likely it can't be done, or at least as efficiently.
  • We have hundreds of customers that already know how to use these applications. They don't want to have to retrain their workers and upgrade their office computers or printers to accommodate the updated systems.
