In January, 2007 we were glad to announce the introduction of the Trimble Ranger and in April, 2008 the Trimble Nomad series of hand held computers. In November, 2009 we added the Handheld US Nautiz X5 and X7. This will give you, the user, the choice of what you think is the best hand held for your application.

Trimble Nomad 800B and 800L
This is a great inexpensive unit for receiving logs, taking physical inventories, doing check scales, milling logs, doing tag only sales and a number of other bar code oriented tasks. The Nomad also runs all of our standard applications and is priced for the budget conscious. There are now more than 5 different models of this unit to select from. Each unit comes Bluetooth and you can add Wi-Fi (802.11g), GPS, a camera and a scanner as your needs dictate. All of these options on a unit in the $1,795 - $2,395 price range (with scanner, camera, Wi-Blue tooth and Bluetooth). The 800L includes the WiFi option and a GPS system. The 800LE also includes a 1D addition in additon to the GPS and WiFi option.

Nautiz X7
This brand new 17 oz. unit is the most feature laden hand held on the market and can do anything that the Nomad 800B or 800L can do for less money. This unit started shipping in November, 2009 and comes with WiFi (802.11 b/g), Bluetooth, GPS, a 3 mega pixel camera with flash, an 806 mHz processor, a full VGA color TFT touch screen, an altimiter and compass, and can even have a 3G voice/data capability added. The standard version without 3G cellular is $1,795 and with 3G cellular is $1,995. It runs all of the same programs as the Nomad with just a few limitations.

Nautiz X5
This unit has been on the market for several years and has gotten lots of acclaim. It is a full featured hand held unit that comes with 512 Mb of memory with an 806 Mhz processor running Windows Mobile 6.1. This unit comes with Bluetooth and WiFi (802.11 b/g). This 14 oz. hand held also comes with a 3 mega pixel camera with flash and can be outfitted with a GPS and 3G voice/data capability. It also has a full VGA color TFT touch screen and at $1,595 for the standard version it is truly affordable. With the extra capabilities of the accessible numeric accessable keyboard you can do everything that the more expensive hand helds like the Ranger 300X and the Allegro CX or MX can do for a lot less money. Our recommendation is to use this unit primarily for lumber grading due to the light weight.
